Now that 2017 is coming to an end, you might be finding yourself reflecting on the past year and how you can create something different, something better for yourself this upcoming year.
As a mother and an entrepreneur, I understand how life can become quite the balancing act; specially during the holiday season. This post is for all of you who tend to forget to take care of yourself and end up overtired and overwhelmed….and maybe a little stressed out 😉
We all know what the flight attendant reminds us in case of an emergency; to put our own oxygen mask before attending to others.
Years ago, I used to put my children’s needs ahead of mine. I didn’t truly understand the oxygen mask theory, nor did I even believe in it. My belief was that my family’s needs came before mine, end of story.
Eventually, I learned (the hard way) that filling up my cup first was the ONLY WAY I could care for my family the way I wanted to. I understood that I had to show up for myself in order to show up for my kids and my husband.
To regenerate and revitalize yourself allows you to have more than enough love, passion and energy for everyone else. As Iyanla Vanzant has said, “But you want to come with your cup full. You know: ‘My cup runneth over.’ What comes out of the cup is for y’all. What’s in the cup is mine. But I’ve got to keep my cup full.”
Whatever activity or hobby you choose doesn’t matter, as long as you feel refreshed and restored afterwards. Whether it’s a walk in the forest, a massage, reading a book while sipping on some herbal tea or going for a run, it all comes down to what makes YOU feel good.
Take it from someone who has put herself last in line for years and ended up with adrenal fatigue, digestive issues and hypoglycemia, EVERYONE in your family will reap the benefits of a happier and healthier you.
